THE CHALLENGE
The Problem
Your dog panics when you leave—barking, howling, destroying things, toileting inside, escaping. Neighbours complain. You can't go to work. You feel guilty leaving them. Cameras show them pacing and panting for hours. Nothing you've tried works.
OUR APPROACH
The Solution
Separation anxiety isn't solved by more toys or tired dogs—it's solved by building confidence through gradual alone-time training, crate conditioning, removing departure anxiety and sometimes medication. It takes time and consistency, but we've rehabilitated hundreds of anxious dogs.
RESULTS
What You'll Achieve
THE PROCESS
How It Works
Assessment: True separation anxiety vs boredom/lack of training
Crate conditioning: Safe space reduces anxiety (if appropriate)
Gradual exposure: 5 minutes alone → hours over weeks
Departure cues: Remove triggers (keys, shoes, routine)
Calm reinforcement: Reward calmness, ignore excitement
Medication consultation: Some cases benefit from vet-prescribed meds
FAQ
Common Questions
What's the difference between separation anxiety and boredom?
Separation anxiety: Panic symptoms (panting, pacing, excessive drooling, destroying exit points). Starts immediately when you leave. Boredom: Destructive after 2+ hours alone, eating non-exit items (cushions, remote controls). Calm initially, then entertainment-seeking. Treatment differs.
Can separation anxiety be cured?
Most cases can be managed to where your dog is calm alone for work hours. True panic-level separation anxiety might always need management (not leaving them 8+ hours). Realistic expectation: 4-6 hours alone comfortably. Complete 'cure' isn't guaranteed—management is the goal.
Should I crate train a dog with separation anxiety?
Depends. Some anxious dogs feel safer in crates (den instinct). Others panic worse when confined. We assess your individual dog. Done correctly, crate training helps most separation anxiety cases by providing security.
How long does separation anxiety training take?
8-12 weeks minimum. This isn't quick—building confidence takes time. We gradually increase alone time over weeks. Anyone promising 2-week separation anxiety fixes is lying. Plan for 3+ months of consistent work.
