THE CHALLENGE
The Problem
Your dog barks constantly—at people walking past, other dogs, noises, when alone, at nothing. Neighbours complain. Council has warned you. You can't think straight. Bark collars haven't worked. You're desperate for peace.
OUR APPROACH
The Solution
Barking is communication—we don't just suppress it, we address WHY your dog barks (alerting, anxiety, boredom, demand barking, territorial) and teach quiet behaviour through boundaries and alternative behaviours. Different barking types need different solutions.
RESULTS
What You'll Achieve
THE PROCESS
How It Works
Bark assessment: Type (alert, anxiety, demand, territorial, boredom)
Trigger identification: What causes barking
Quiet command: Teach 'enough' or 'quiet' with enforcement
Alternative behaviours: Replace barking with acceptable actions
Environmental management: Reduce visual/auditory triggers
Consequences: Balanced corrections for inappropriate barking
FAQ
Common Questions
Why do bark collars not work?
Bark collars suppress symptoms without addressing causes. They work temporarily, but anxious dogs often bark through the correction or develop worse behaviours. They're tools, not solutions. We use bark collars sometimes, but combined with actual behaviour modification—not as standalone fixes.
Is it cruel to train dogs not to bark?
No—we're not eliminating all barking. Alert barking (someone at door) is normal and acceptable. Excessive barking (30 minutes at leaf blowing, barking at every passer-by) isn't. Dogs need boundaries. Letting them bark constantly creates stress for dog AND household.
What's the difference between alert barking and nuisance barking?
Alert barking: 2-3 barks when someone approaches, then stops on command. Normal and acceptable. Nuisance barking: Continues after alert, barks at non-threats, barks when alone, demand barking for attention. This is trainable and needs addressing.
Can you train barking out of vocal breeds like Beagles or Huskies?
We can't eliminate breed drives, but we can manage them. Vocal breeds will always be more talkative, but we teach boundaries—you can howl at dinner time, you can't howl at 3am. Realistic management, not breed suppression.
