The North Shore is one of the best places in Auckland to own a dog, and one of the most demanding to train one. Between Takapuna Beach, the cafés along Hurstmere Road and the dense run of townhouses and apartments going up around the town centre, your dog is asked to switch between calm and chaos all day long. That mix of busy coastline, retail strips and tight residential streets is exactly why I train your dog to hold it together in the real world, not just in the quiet of your lounge.
The distractions here are specific. Off-leash beaches like Takapuna and Kennedy Park can be thick with other dogs sharing the same sand, so I put a lot of work into rock-solid recall and dog-dog neutrality before I ever trust a dog off the lead in that environment. The café and townhouse areas around Takapuna and Milford throw foot traffic, prams, joggers, e-scooters and food temptation at your dog constantly, so I train loose-lead walking and a reliable 'leave it' until your dog can walk past all of it without losing the plot. And because so many reserves here sit on-leash zones right next to off-leash ones, I teach you to switch your handling quickly as you cross those invisible lines.
I start in your home, where your dog is calmest and learning comes easiest, and we build the foundations there first. Then I take that training on location to the spots you actually use, whether that is the Takapuna Beach reserve, the year-round off-leash sand at Kennedy Park or a busy walk through Milford. My method is balanced, meaning I use the full range of tools and clear consequences to build genuine reliability, and I tailor every programme to your dog and the way you live on the Shore.

Train Where You Walk
We train your dog at the actual locations you walk them. Real world training for real world reliability.
A long stretch of sand with eight access points, open grass and Rangitoto views, but the off-leash window is season and time restricted (off-leash 5pm-10am in summer, 2pm-10am off-season), so I build recall training around that quiet early morning slot before the beach fills up.
The beach area here is off-leash at all times with no seasonal restriction, which is unusual for the Shore and makes it my go-to year-round proving ground for recall and calm dog-dog interactions, though dogs stay on-leash near the playground and are prohibited north of the observation post.
A popular sandy beach next to Takapuna with a promenade, cafés and an estuary outlet at the northern end with shorebirds, which is brilliant for proofing loose-lead walking and a steady 'leave it' around wildlife once your dog's foundations are solid.
Plus all local reserves, walkways and neighbourhood streets in North Shore and surrounding areas.

Common Questions
In summer (1 December to 1 March) the beach is off-leash from 5pm to 10am, and dogs are prohibited entirely between 10am and 5pm. Off-season (2 March to 30 November) it opens up to off-leash from 2pm right through to 10am. A lot of owners get caught out by that 10am-5pm summer rule, so I build recall and beach work around the early morning window when it is legal and quieter.
Yes. The beach area at Kennedy Park in Castor Bay is off-leash at all times with no season or time restriction, which is rare for this part of the Shore. It is one of my favourite spots for off-leash training because you are not racing a clock, though dogs still need to be on-leash near the playground and are not allowed north of the observation post.
Absolutely, that is one of the most common things I get called about on the Shore. The townhouse and café areas around Takapuna and Milford are dense with foot traffic, food and other dogs, so I start the work in your home where your dog is calm, then take it on location once the foundations are there. We build loose-lead walking and a steady response to distraction until your dog can settle outside a café instead of winding up.
Every programme is tailored to your dog, your goals and the issues you are dealing with, so there is no one-size price. I would rather understand your situation first and recommend the right approach. Have a look at the pricing page or book a consult and we can map out a plan that fits your dog and your life on the Shore.
