THE CHALLENGE
The Problem
Your puppy bites constantly—hands, ankles, clothes, kids. It hurts. You've tried yelping, ignoring, redirecting, but nothing works. Visitors avoid your puppy. You're worried it'll get worse as they grow.
OUR APPROACH
The Solution
Bite inhibition training teaches puppies how hard is too hard BEFORE they're adults with adult teeth. We don't just redirect biting—we teach your puppy that biting humans isn't acceptable, while still allowing appropriate play with other dogs.
RESULTS
What You'll Achieve
THE PROCESS
How It Works
Assessment: Identify why your puppy bites (play, teething, overstimulation)
Bite inhibition training: Teach soft mouth before eliminating biting
Redirection: Appropriate outlets for puppy energy
Boundary setting: Clear consequences for biting humans
Socialisation: Other puppies teach bite feedback naturally
Follow-up: Ensure biting doesn't return during teething phases
FAQ
Common Questions
At what age should I address puppy biting?
Immediately—from 8 weeks old. The earlier you start, the easier it is. Puppy biting peaks around 12-16 weeks during teething, but teaching bite inhibition should start as soon as you get your puppy. Don't wait until it's a problem.
Is puppy biting normal or a sign of aggression?
Puppy biting is normal—puppies explore with their mouths and learn bite pressure through play. However, if ignored or reinforced, it can develop into adult aggression. The goal isn't to eliminate play, it's to teach appropriate bite pressure and eliminate biting humans.
Why doesn't yelping work to stop biting?
Yelping works for some puppies (mimics littermate feedback), but actually excites others more. It depends on your puppy's temperament. If yelping hasn't worked after a few tries, you need actual consequences (timeouts, corrections) not just vocal feedback.
Will puppy biting stop on its own?
Maybe, maybe not. Some puppies naturally develop soft mouths. Others don't and become adult dogs who bite when frustrated, excited or playing. Don't gamble—teach bite inhibition properly while they're young.
