Taking Your Dog to Orewa Beach
A long, safe Hibiscus Coast beach with a clear evening-to-morning off-leash window the whole family can enjoy.
Off-leash rules
Off-leash 5pm to 10am all year. On-leash through the middle of the day.
When: Off-leash 5pm to 10am, summer and winter.
- • Dog rules apply from the northern headland to the southern end of the Estuary Bridge.
- • On-leash outside the off-leash hours.
Facilities
Orewa is a long, gentle, safe beach, which makes it a good one for dogs who are still building their confidence in the water or around other dogs. The off-leash window is simple to remember, before 10am and after 5pm, the same all year round.
The flat open sand gives you plenty of room to spread out, so even on a busy morning you can usually find a quiet stretch to work in.
Make the most of it
The length of Orewa is the gift here. You can put real distance between your dog and a distraction and still call them back, which is exactly how we build a recall you can trust. Start close, build the distance, and the beach does half the work for you.
Local tips
- The southern end near the estuary is usually quieter than the surf-club end.
- Before 8am you will often have a whole stretch to yourself.
- Plenty of parking and toilets, so it is a comfortable spot for a longer session.
