Giving Every Rescue Dog the Best Start
100% K9 and W.A.G.S Rescue NZ have partnered to give every adopted dog a free professional behaviour consultation
Every Rescue Dog Deserves Professional Support
W.A.G.S — Welcome, Adopt, Give, Save — rescues dogs from desperate situations and finds them loving homes across Auckland. But the journey doesn't end at adoption. Many rescue dogs carry emotional baggage from their past that can make the transition to a new home challenging for both dog and owner.
That's why 100% K9 has partnered with W.A.G.S Rescue NZ to offer every adopter one free in-home behaviour modification consultation — a $250 value, completely free. Our goal is simple: give your rescue dog the best possible start in their new life with you.

Understanding Your Rescue Dog
Knowledge is your greatest tool. Understanding what your rescue dog is going through helps you respond with patience instead of frustration.
The 3-3-3 Rule
First 3 days
Overwhelmed, may not eat or drink much, shut down or hiding. This is completely normal.
First 3 weeks
Settling in, personality starts emerging, testing boundaries. Some problem behaviours may appear.
First 3 months
Fully comfortable, true personality shows. This is when you really meet your dog.
Common Rescue Behaviours
Resource guarding
Protecting food, toys or sleeping spots from perceived threats
Fear responses
Flinching at hands, fear of men, startling at sudden movements
Separation anxiety
Destructive behaviour, excessive vocalisation or toileting when left alone
Reactivity
Lunging, barking or growling at other dogs or people from past trauma
Building Trust
Patience over force
Let your dog come to you on their terms. Forcing interaction builds fear, not trust.
Consistent routines
Predictability creates safety. Same walk times, feeding times and quiet times.
Safe spaces
Give your dog a crate or quiet area that is entirely theirs. Never use it as punishment.
Positive reinforcement
Reward the behaviour you want to see. Punishment damages the trust you are building.
When to Seek Help
Aggression escalation
Growling progressing to snapping or biting, especially around food or resources
Persistent anxiety
Fear or stress that hasn't improved after 3 months in the home
Destructive behaviour
Destroying furniture, doors or walls, particularly when left alone
Inability to settle
Constant pacing, panting or inability to relax even in a calm environment
