Rodney is full of lifestyle blocks and rural properties — places where dogs have more freedom and more opportunity to get into serious trouble. A dog that chases sheep or bolts when the gate opens isn't just an inconvenience. It's a safety risk.

Stock Chasing

A dog that chases livestock is one bad day away from being shot by a farmer — and they'd be within their legal rights under New Zealand law. The instinct to chase is deeply wired into most dogs, particularly herding breeds and terriers.

Boundary Training

Fencing a lifestyle block to dog-proof standard is expensive and often impractical on hilly Rodney terrain with bush gullies and stream crossings. A dog that roams encounters roads, livestock, traps, poison stations and other dogs.

Wildlife Encounters

Rodney's bush areas are home to kiwi, weka and other ground-nesting native birds. Dogs that roam unsupervised through native bush are a direct threat to our most vulnerable wildlife.

E-Collar Training — $1,750 Package

Our comprehensive e-collar programme for rock-solid off-leash control. Includes the e-collar unit, all training sessions and ongoing support. We use modern low-stimulation e-collars with proper conditioning protocols — never as punishment.

Behaviour Modification — $250 per Session

For dogs with specific reactive behaviours around livestock, horses or other animals. We identify the root cause and build a structured modification plan that changes how your dog feels about the trigger.

How Rural Training Works

We come to your property. We assess your environment — boundaries, risk areas, terrain. We train in context: if your dog chases chickens, we train around chickens. If the issue is boundary crossing, we work at the fence line.
